How to stream to YouTube and Twitch at the same time
To stream to YouTube and Twitch at the same time, add both to one Upstream stream and send your video to Upstream once. Both platforms connect by signing in, so there are no keys to copy from YouTube or Twitch. You stream from OBS, from your browser or from uploaded videos, and your connection only carries one stream. Uploaded videos can also run as a 24/7 playlist on both platforms with your computer off.
Two things to sort out first. YouTube can take up to 24 hours to turn on live streaming for a new channel. And Twitch allows simulcasting with conditions, covered below, that apply no matter which tool you use.
- Up to 10 platforms on one stream
- Free plan works
- Playlists run 24/7 with your computer off
Before you start
- An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
- A YouTube account that can go live
- A Twitch account that can go live
- YouTube: Your YouTube channel needs live streaming turned on. The first time, YouTube can take up to 24 hours to turn it on, so do it a day ahead.
- Twitch: Twitch allows simulcasting unless you signed an agreement that says otherwise, and the Twitch stream can't be worse than the others. As of October 2026, Twitch's written Terms still bar merged chat from other platforms on the Twitch stream, but Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said in February 2026 that Twitch would no longer take enforcement action for showing combined chat.
Step 1
Create a stream
In Upstream, press Create stream and pick where the video comes from: Multistream from OBS for OBS or any app with custom RTMP, Live Studio to go live from your browser, or Prerecorded and/or 24/7 for uploaded videos.
Step 2
Add YouTube as the main platform
On Select your primary platform, choose YouTube, then sign in with the Google account that owns your channel. Upstream creates the broadcast on your channel, so there is no key to paste.
Step 3
Add Twitch
On the Set up multistreaming step, press Add stream and pick the platform under Platform. You can add or change platforms later too, in Live Studio under Destinations.
Twitch: pick Twitch, then sign in with your Twitch account. You can paste the stream key from your Twitch dashboard instead.
Step 4
Send your video and start
Send the video in: from OBS or another app, paste the RTMP Server URL and Stream Key from Live Studio into it (the OBS guide shows where); from the browser, join Live Studio with your camera. Then press Start stream, and the stream goes out to YouTube and Twitch together.
Run one playlist 24/7 on YouTube and Twitch at once
This is what Upstream was built for. Upload your videos once, and Upstream plays them from its own servers as one live stream to YouTube and Twitch at the same time, around the clock. You don't need OBS, a VPS or a PC left running at home: your computer can be off.
- Upload once. Add your videos and music to the Media Library with Upload file, or import them from a Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive link (the cloud storage guide shows how). Any of your streams can use them, so nothing gets uploaded twice.
- Create the stream. Press Create stream, pick Prerecorded and/or 24/7, then add YouTube as the main platform and Twitch next to it, as in steps 2 and 3 above.
- Loop video and audio separately. Put your videos on the Background tab and your music on the Audio tab. Each playlist loops on its own, in order or shuffled, so a handful of videos can play under hours of music, like a radio station with visuals.
- Keep it running. Leave Playback mode on Loop continuously. The stream then plays your playlists until you stop it or a schedule ends.
- Start once for both. Press Start stream, or set a schedule. YouTube and Twitch get the same stream at the same time, and you can close the laptop.
Twitch's 48 hour limit. Twitch ends a broadcast after 48 hours, and that can't be changed. Upstream reconnects on its own, so viewers see a short break every 48 hours instead of an ended stream. Our guide on how to run a 24/7 Twitch stream covers the rest.
YouTube's rules for long streams. YouTube has no set maximum length for a live stream: one YouTube broadcast on Upstream, Final Fantasy LoFi Radio, has run without a restart since July 27, 2024, 800+ days so far. What YouTube limits is the replay. It archives streams shorter than 12 hours, and a longer one may not be saved at all. Everything you stream, prerecorded or not, has to follow YouTube's Community Guidelines.
YouTube's own help page on streaming across platforms describes this route: send one stream to a cloud service, and it sends that stream on to every platform, which keeps the load off your computer. With a playlist on Upstream, nothing streams from your computer at all. Upstream is on YouTube's list of verified encoders.
What it costs. You pay for the stream, and every stream goes to up to 10 of the 30+ supported platforms at once, so YouTube and Twitch together cost the same as YouTube alone. One stream is $30 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, at 1080p and 30 fps. From 4 streams, each one is $20 a month, or $16 billed yearly. The free plan includes 24 hours of streaming a month, enough to test the setup, and a stream that never stops needs a paid plan. See pricing.
Keep YouTube chat off the Twitch video
As of October 2026, Twitch's written Terms still bar merged chat from other platforms on the Twitch stream, but Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said in February 2026 that Twitch would no longer take enforcement action for showing combined chat. For zero risk, show Twitch chat only, or none, in the video you send to both. You can still read both chats in one place: Upstream combines YouTube, Twitch, Kick and Rumble chat into one feed while you stream, and that feed is for you, not part of the video. So Twitch's rule only matters if you put a chat overlay in the video yourself.
Twitch also asks that the Twitch stream isn't worse than the others. Sending one stream through Upstream gives both platforms the same picture. For Twitch's full rules, see does Twitch allow multistreaming.
Troubleshooting
YouTube won't let me go live
Live streaming has to be turned on for the channel first, and the first time can take up to 24 hours. Adding YouTube in Upstream doesn't skip that wait.
YouTube didn't save the whole broadcast
YouTube saves a replay only for streams shorter than 12 hours. Keep the broadcast under that if you need the replay.
FAQ
Can I stream a playlist of videos 24/7 to YouTube and Twitch at the same time?
Yes. Upload your videos to Upstream, create a stream with Prerecorded and/or 24/7, add YouTube and Twitch, and leave it on Loop continuously. Upstream plays the playlist from its servers to both platforms at once, so your computer can be off. Music can run as its own playlist on the Audio tab. Here are the steps.
What happens when Twitch hits its 48 hour limit?
Twitch ends every broadcast after 48 hours. Upstream reconnects for you, so a playlist stays live 24/7 with a short break every 48 hours. YouTube has no set maximum length for a live stream, though it only saves a replay for streams shorter than 12 hours.
How much does a 24/7 stream to YouTube and Twitch cost?
One stream covers both. You pay for the stream, and each one goes to up to 10 of the 30+ supported platforms at once. It's $30 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, at 1080p and 30 fps. From 4 streams, each one is $20, as low as $16 billed yearly. The free plan includes 24 hours a month to test it, and a stream that never stops needs a paid plan.
Can OBS stream to YouTube and Twitch at the same time?
Yes. Point OBS at Upstream with its Custom service, and add YouTube and Twitch to the stream in Upstream. OBS sends one stream and Upstream sends it to both. The OBS guide has the steps.
Why not use an OBS multistream plugin instead?
A plugin sends a separate copy of the stream from your computer to each platform, so your upload carries two streams, and some plugins encode twice too. With Upstream your computer sends one stream and the copies are made in the cloud. Check your upload with the streaming bandwidth calculator. For the plugin route, see how to multistream on OBS with Aitum.
Can Twitch Affiliates also stream on YouTube?
Twitch allows simulcasting unless you signed an agreement that says otherwise, as long as the Twitch stream isn't worse. As of October 2026, Twitch's written Terms still bar merged chat from other platforms on the Twitch stream, but Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said in February 2026 that Twitch would no longer take enforcement action for showing combined chat. Check the terms for your own account.
Can I see YouTube and Twitch chat in one place?
Yes. Upstream combines YouTube, Twitch, Kick and Rumble chat into one feed while you stream. This works across all stream types, including 24/7, and all plans, including free. The feed is for you to read in Upstream and isn't part of the video, so it stays clear of Twitch's rule on merged chat.
Can I add Kick too?
Yes, the same way as Twitch in step 3. Our guide on how to multistream to YouTube, Twitch and Kick covers all three.
