Set up the Moblin app to multistream from your iPhone
Moblin is a free, open-source iPhone app that IRL streamers use to go live from the street. Add Upstream as a custom RTMP stream, and Upstream copies your phone's stream to up to 10 platforms while the phone uploads only one.
Moblin also speaks SRT, but Upstream takes in RTMP only, so pick RTMP(S) in the wizard and use the plain rtmp:// address. Unlike some apps, Moblin keeps the server address and the stream key in separate fields.
- iPhone
- Free, open-source app
Before you start
- An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
- Moblin on your iPhone
- A good mobile or Wi-Fi connection
Step 1
Get your server URL and stream key from Upstream
In Upstream, press Create stream, choose Multistream from OBS (it works for any RTMP app or device) and add your platforms, up to 10. The stream opens in Live Studio with the RTMP input on. For a stream you already have, open Live Studio, Source and set Live Source to RTMP.
- RTMP Server URL
rtmp://ingest.upstream.so:1935/live- Stream Key
- Unique to each stream. Copy it from Upstream and keep it private.
Step 2
Create a custom RTMP stream in Moblin
In Moblin, open Settings, Streams and tap Create. Choose Custom and set the protocol to RTMP(S). Paste the RTMP Server URL into URL and the Stream Key into Stream key, then tap Next. Name the stream and tap Create, then select it as the stream to use.
Step 3
Check the video settings
Open the stream's Video settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Resolution | 1080p The largest picture Upstream takes in. |
| FPS | 30 Upstream converts 60 fps to 30. |
| Codec | H.264/AVC Moblin's default for RTMP, and what Upstream takes in. |
Each platform also caps bitrate and stream length on its side. See the live streaming limits for YouTube, Twitch, Kick and more.
Step 4
Start the stream, then go live
Start the stream in Upstream first, then start streaming from Moblin. Live Studio switches from Not connected to Excellent, Good or Poor connection when the feed arrives, and Upstream sends it to every platform on the stream.
Troubleshooting
I put the key on the end of the URL
Moblin joins the two fields itself. Keep the URL ending at /live and put the key only in Stream key.
I picked SRT and Upstream gets nothing
Upstream takes in RTMP only. Create the stream with the protocol set to RTMP(S). SRT streams in Moblin also default to HEVC, which Upstream doesn't take.
Moblin still streams to my old destination
Creating a stream doesn't switch to it. Select the new Upstream stream in Moblin before you go live.
For connection problems that aren't specific to Moblin, such as Not connected, a poor connection or a leaked key, see the full RTMP troubleshooting list.
FAQ
Do I need OBS to stream from Moblin to several platforms?
No. Moblin can send straight to Upstream, and Upstream sends to your platforms. Guides about Moblin and OBS describe a different setup.
Is Moblin on Android?
No, Moblin is an iPhone app. On Android, Larix Broadcaster sends to Upstream the same way.
Checked against Moblin source code and the Upstream app, October 2026.
