How to stream a Webex meeting to YouTube, Facebook and more
Webex streams a meeting to one streaming service at a time. Make that service Upstream, and the meeting reaches YouTube, Facebook and any other platforms you add, up to 10 at once.
It needs a paid Webex plan on the Webex video platform 2.0, and an admin has to allow streaming for both the site and the host. Plan around one limit: whiteboards and file sharing, video files included, don't work in the meeting while it is streaming.
- Paid Webex plan
- One service per meeting
Before you start
- An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
- A paid Webex plan on the Webex video platform 2.0
- The platforms you want to go live on
Step 1
Get your server URL and stream key from Upstream
In Upstream, press Create stream, choose Multistream from OBS (it works for any RTMP app or device) and add your platforms, up to 10. The stream opens in Live Studio with the RTMP input on. For a stream you already have, open Live Studio, Source and set Live Source to RTMP.
- RTMP Server URL
rtmp://ingest.upstream.so:1935/live- Stream Key
- Unique to each stream. Copy it from Upstream and keep it private.
Step 2
Allow live streaming in Webex
A Webex admin opens Control Hub and goes to Services, Meeting, Sites, picks the site, then Settings, Common Settings, Site Options. Under Live Streaming Services, tick Other streaming services and save.
Then, for each host, under Management, Users, open the user's Meetings settings, Advanced Settings, User Settings, and tick Enable Live Streaming / NDI.
Step 3
Paste the details into Webex
In the meeting, click More options, Start live streaming and choose Other streaming services. Type a name such as Upstream under Streaming service, paste the RTMP Server URL into Target stream link and the Stream Key into Target stream key, then click Start streaming. The site admin sets the stream resolution, up to 1080p.
Step 4
Start the stream, then go live
Start the stream in Upstream first, then start streaming from Webex. Live Studio switches from Not connected to Excellent, Good or Poor connection when the feed arrives, and Upstream sends it to every platform on the stream.
Troubleshooting
Start live streaming is missing from More options
Streaming has to be allowed for the site and for your user (step 2), on a paid plan and the Webex video platform 2.0.
I can't share a whiteboard or a video file
Webex turns off whiteboards and Share File while a meeting is streaming. Share them before or after the broadcast, or stop streaming from More options.
I can't stream from a webinar practice session
Webex doesn't allow live streaming from practice sessions. Start the stream from the live session itself.
For connection problems that aren't specific to Webex, such as Not connected, a poor connection or a leaked key, see the full RTMP troubleshooting list.
