How to multistream a channel from an Epiphan Pearl-2

An Epiphan Pearl-2 sends a channel to Upstream with an RTMP push stream, and Upstream copies it to up to 10 platforms. A channel is one of the program outputs you build in the Pearl's Admin panel, so add the stream under the channel you want viewers to see.

The Pearl-2 calls the stream key the Stream name, which is where most setups go wrong. The username and password fields are for servers that need a login, and Upstream doesn't.

  • Epiphan Pearl-2
  • One channel, up to 10 platforms

Before you start

  • An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
  • An Epiphan Pearl-2 and a browser on the same network
  • The platforms you want to go live on

Step 1

Get your server URL and stream key from Upstream

In Upstream, press Create stream, choose Multistream from OBS (it works for any RTMP app or device) and add your platforms, up to 10. The stream opens in Live Studio with the RTMP input on. For a stream you already have, open Live Studio, Source and set Live Source to RTMP.

RTMP Server URL
rtmp://ingest.upstream.so:1935/live
Stream Key
Unique to each stream. Copy it from Upstream and keep it private.
Live Studio, Source, set to RTMP. The stream key stays hidden until you press the eye icon.

Step 2

Add an RTMP push stream to the channel

Open the Pearl's Admin panel in a browser and sign in as admin. Under Channel(s), pick the channel to send and open Streaming. Click New stream, choose RTMP push and click the new stream's name.

Paste the RTMP Server URL into URL and the Stream Key into Stream name. Leave User name and Password empty and click Apply. Use Start on this stream once the Upstream stream is started.

Step 3

Start the stream, then go live

Start the stream in Upstream first, then start streaming from the Pearl-2. Live Studio switches from Not connected to Excellent, Good or Poor connection when the feed arrives, and Upstream sends it to every platform on the stream.

Troubleshooting

Upstream shows the wrong program

The stream belongs to the channel you added it under. Check that you opened the right channel's Streaming page.

It doesn't connect and I filled in User name

The key belongs in Stream name, not User name. Leave the login fields empty, click Apply and start the stream again.

Other streams started too

Start all starts every stream on the channel. Use Start on the Upstream stream alone.

For connection problems that aren't specific to the Pearl-2, such as Not connected, a poor connection or a leaked key, see the full RTMP troubleshooting list.

FAQ

Which Pearl-2 field takes the stream key?

Stream name. The server address goes in URL, and the user name and password stay empty.

Can I send H.265 from a Pearl-2 to Upstream?

Upstream takes in H.264 video with AAC audio, so use H.264 for this stream.

Checked against Pearl-2 user guide: RTMP push and the Upstream app, October 2026.
