How to multistream from PRISM Live Studio on desktop or phone
PRISM's free Basic plan streams to one channel at a time. Make that channel Upstream, and Upstream copies the stream to up to 10 platforms, so you get multistreaming without PRISM Plus.
The setup differs a little between the desktop app and the phone app, so both are below. On a phone, the free plan adds a PRISM watermark and an outro to the stream, and a Custom RTMP channel shows no chat or viewer count inside PRISM.
- PC, Mac, iPhone or Android
- Works on PRISM's free plan
Before you start
- An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
- PRISM Live Studio on your computer or phone
- The platforms you want to go live on
Step 1
Get your server URL and stream key from Upstream
In Upstream, press Create stream, choose Multistream from OBS (it works for any RTMP app or device) and add your platforms, up to 10. The stream opens in Live Studio with the RTMP input on. For a stream you already have, open Live Studio, Source and set Live Source to RTMP.
- RTMP Server URL
rtmp://ingest.upstream.so:1935/live- Stream Key
- Unique to each stream. Copy it from Upstream and keep it private.
Step 2
Add Upstream as a channel in PRISM
On a computer: click the ⋮ menu in My Channel, choose Add Channels and pick Custom RTMP. Paste the RTMP Server URL into URL and the Stream Key into Stream Key, name the channel and click Save. Hover the channel icon and switch it on.
On a phone: on the LIVE tab, tap Ready, then My channels and +. Choose Custom RTMP, paste the RTMP Server URL into Stream URL and the Stream Key into Stream Key, then tap Save.
Video settings. On a computer, resolution and frame rate are under Settings, Video; set 1080p at 30 fps, or 60 fps if your Upstream stream is set to 60 (paid plans). On a phone, PRISM adjusts the bitrate on its own by default.
Step 3
Start the stream, then go live
Start the stream in Upstream first, then start streaming from PRISM. Live Studio switches from Not connected to Excellent, Good or Poor connection when the feed arrives, and Upstream sends it to every platform on the stream.
Troubleshooting
PRISM shows error 57999
The URL field only accepts addresses that start with rtmp://, srt:// or rist://. Paste the Upstream
server URL exactly, starting with rtmp://, and keep the key in its own field.
Chat and viewer counts are missing on my phone
PRISM's phone app doesn't show chat or viewer counts for Custom RTMP channels. Watch them on each platform's own live page.
My phone stream has a watermark and an outro
Those come from PRISM's free plan on phones. PRISM Plus removes them. Upstream adds no watermark of its own.
For connection problems that aren't specific to PRISM, such as Not connected, a poor connection or a leaked key, see the full RTMP troubleshooting list.
FAQ
Is PRISM Live Studio free?
Yes. The free Basic plan includes one streaming channel. Set it to Upstream to reach up to 10 platforms. On phones, Basic adds a watermark and an outro.
Can I multistream from PRISM on my phone?
Yes. The iPhone and Android app can send a Custom RTMP channel to Upstream, and Upstream sends it to your platforms.
How do I stream PRISM to TikTok?
Add TikTok in Upstream as Other (Custom RTMP), with the server URL and key TikTok shows under Go LIVE on a computer. TikTok decides which accounts get a key, and it shows vertical video best.
