How to multistream from a LiveU Solo or Solo PRO

A LiveU Solo sends one stream to Upstream as a Generic RTMP destination, and Upstream copies it to up to 10 platforms. You set it up once in the LiveU Solo portal, not on the unit.

Decide how the stream travels first. Bonding combines several connections for a steadier stream and needs LiveU's LRT service or Solo Connect. RTMP Direct sends from the unit over one connection and needs neither. Both end at the same Upstream destination.

  • LiveU Solo or Solo PRO
  • Bonded or RTMP Direct

Before you start

  • An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
  • A LiveU Solo or Solo PRO registered in the LiveU Solo portal
  • The platforms you want to go live on

Step 1

Get your server URL and stream key from Upstream

In Upstream, press Create stream, choose Multistream from OBS (it works for any RTMP app or device) and add your platforms, up to 10. The stream opens in Live Studio with the RTMP input on. For a stream you already have, open Live Studio, Source and set Live Source to RTMP.

RTMP Server URL
rtmp://ingest.upstream.so:1935/live
Stream Key
Unique to each stream. Copy it from Upstream and keep it private.
Live Studio, Source, set to RTMP. The stream key stays hidden until you press the eye icon.

Step 2

Add Upstream as a destination in the Solo portal

Sign in at solo.liveu.tv. In the Destination box, choose Select New Destination, then Generic RTMP under Streaming Destinations. Paste the RTMP Server URL into Primary Ingress URL and the Stream Key into Stream Name or Stream Key, name the destination and save it.

Once the Upstream stream is started, select the destination and click Go Live in the portal.

Step 3

Pick the profile

In the destination's settings:

Recommended output settings for Upstream
SettingValue
Profile1080p The largest picture Upstream takes in. A Solo PRO's 4K option doesn't pass through Upstream.
Advanced Profile video bitrateUp to 6 Mbps LiveU's standard target for a destination.

Each platform also caps bitrate and stream length on its side. See the live streaming limits for YouTube, Twitch, Kick and more.

Step 4

Start the stream, then go live

Start the stream in Upstream first, then start streaming from the LiveU Solo. Live Studio switches from Not connected to Excellent, Good or Poor connection when the feed arrives, and Upstream sends it to every platform on the stream.

Bonded or RTMP Direct, same destination

With bonding, your Solo sends to LiveU's cloud over several connections at once, and LiveU passes the stream to Upstream over RTMP. With RTMP Direct, the unit sends RTMP to Upstream itself. Either way, Upstream gets one stream and sends it to your platforms.

Leave the Secondary Ingress URL empty, since Upstream has no backup input, and pick plain Generic RTMP rather than the version with authentication. Upstream uses the stream key, not a username and password.

Troubleshooting

Generic RTMP asks for details I don't have

Use Generic RTMP, not Generic with Authentication. Only Primary Ingress URL and Stream Name or Stream Key are needed.

My Solo PRO is set to 4K but the stream is 1080p

That is expected: Upstream takes in up to 1080p at 30 fps. Pick a 1080p profile so the unit doesn't send detail that gets scaled down.

For connection problems that aren't specific to the LiveU Solo, such as Not connected, a poor connection or a leaked key, see the full RTMP troubleshooting list.

FAQ

Do I need LRT to use Upstream with a LiveU Solo?

No. LRT, or Solo Connect, is only needed for bonding. RTMP Direct mode sends to Upstream without it.

Where do I log in to add the destination?

At solo.liveu.tv, the LiveU Solo portal. Destinations are added there, not on the unit.

Checked against LiveU Solo help center and the Upstream app, October 2026.
