How to dual stream on Twitch and TikTok

You can dual stream on Twitch and TikTok through Upstream if TikTok gives your account a stream key. Twitch connects by signing in. TikTok has no sign-in in Upstream: you paste the server URL and key TikTok shows when you go live from a computer.

The bigger decision is shape. Twitch viewers watch in landscape and TikTok viewers hold their phone upright, but one stream has one shape. Read the section below before you build your layout.

  • Up to 10 platforms on one stream
  • Free plan works

Before you start

  • An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
  • A Twitch account that can go live
  • A TikTok account that can go live
  • Twitch: Twitch allows simulcasting unless you signed an agreement that says otherwise. The Twitch stream can't be worse than the others, and merged chat from other platforms can't appear on the Twitch broadcast.
  • TikTok: TikTok decides which accounts get a stream key, so check that yours has one before the stream. TikTok is vertical (9:16).

Step 1

Create a stream

In Upstream, press Create stream and pick where the video comes from: Multistream from OBS for OBS or any app with custom RTMP, Live Studio to go live from your browser, or Prerecorded and/or 24/7 for uploaded videos.

Create Stream: the first step asks what kind of stream you are making.

Step 2

Add Twitch as the main platform

On Select your primary platform, choose Twitch, then sign in with your Twitch account. You can paste the stream key from your Twitch dashboard instead.

The platform step. Saved destinations show above the tiles once you have some.

Step 3

Add TikTok

On the Set up multistreaming step, press Add stream and pick the platform under Platform. You can add or change platforms later too, in Live Studio under Destinations.

TikTok: pick Custom RTMP, then on a computer, click Go LIVE on TikTok and paste the server URL and stream key it shows. TikTok has no tile of its own in Upstream.

Step 4

Send your video and start

Send the video in: from OBS or another app, paste the RTMP Server URL and Stream Key from Live Studio into it (the OBS guide shows where); from the browser, join Live Studio with your camera. Then press Start stream, and the stream goes out to Twitch and TikTok together.

One stream, one shape

The stream's shape is set under Resolution & Orientation, and every platform on the stream gets it. A landscape stream shows up small or cropped on TikTok. A vertical one, such as 1080p (Vertical), fills TikTok but is narrow on Twitch.

Pick the shape for the audience that matters most, and keep important text and faces near the middle so they survive either way. To give each platform its own shape, run two streams instead (paid plans can run more than one at a time).

Troubleshooting

I can go live on TikTok but there is no stream key

TikTok decides which accounts get a key for streaming from a computer. Being able to go live from the phone app doesn't mean you have one.

OBS connects but TikTok gets nothing

Check that TikTok's server URL and key are in the TikTok destination in Upstream, and that OBS has Upstream's server URL and key. The two pairs do different jobs.

FAQ

Can I stream on Twitch and TikTok at the same time?

Yes, if TikTok has given your account a stream key. Twitch allows simulcasting unless you signed an agreement that says otherwise, as long as the Twitch stream isn't worse and merged TikTok chat stays off the Twitch video.

Can I combine TikTok and Twitch chat?

Upstream doesn't merge chat. Twitch also doesn't allow merged chat from other platforms on the Twitch broadcast, so keep any combined chat off the video.
