How to send mimoLive to Upstream with Custom RTMP
mimoLive sends a show to Upstream through a Live Streaming output destination set to Custom RTMP Server. Upstream copies it to up to 10 platforms, so mimoLive only has to stream once from your Mac.
Check your mimoLive license before a public show. The free Evaluation version adds a watermark. A lapsed license adds a moving watermark and stops the show after 15 minutes, which can look like a connection problem when it isn't.
- mimoLive for Mac
- One output, up to 10 platforms
Before you start
- An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
- mimoLive on a Mac
- The platforms you want to go live on
Step 1
Get your server URL and stream key from Upstream
In Upstream, press Create stream, choose Multistream from OBS (it works for any RTMP app or device) and add your platforms, up to 10. The stream opens in Live Studio with the RTMP input on. For a stream you already have, open Live Studio, Source and set Live Source to RTMP.
- RTMP Server URL
rtmp://ingest.upstream.so:1935/live- Stream Key
- Unique to each stream. Copy it from Upstream and keep it private.
Step 2
Add Upstream as an output destination
In your mimoLive document, click + in the Output Destinations column and double-click Live Streaming. Set Service to Custom RTMP Server, paste the RTMP Server URL into Ingest Server and the Stream Key into Stream Key. Leave the username and password empty.
Pick Program Output for video and the Program Out mix for audio. Then switch the destination on, or tick Start with show so it starts with your show.
Step 3
Check the advanced settings
Open the destination's Advanced Settings. The frame rate comes from the document, so set the document to 30 fps, or 60 if your Upstream stream is set to 60 fps (paid plans).
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Video Codec | H.264 The video format Upstream takes in. |
| Video Size | 1920 x 1080 1080p is a starting point. Upstream input follows the resolution selected on your stream, up to 4K on a plan that includes it. |
| Key Frame Interval | 2 In seconds. A full picture every 2 seconds is usual for live streams. |
| Audio Codec | AAC The audio format Upstream takes in. |
| On Disconnect | Automatically reconnect mimoLive retries if the connection drops. |
Each platform also caps bitrate and stream length on its side. See the live streaming limits for YouTube, Twitch, Kick and more.
Step 4
Start the stream, then go live
Start the stream in Upstream first, then start streaming from mimoLive. Live Studio switches from Not connected to Excellent, Good or Poor connection when the feed arrives, and Upstream sends it to every platform on the stream.
Troubleshooting
The stream has the wrong picture or sound
Check the destination's video and audio sources: Program Output for video and the Program Out mix for audio.
A moving watermark appears and the show stops after 15 minutes
That is mimoLive's lapsed-license behaviour, not a connection problem. Renew the license, then go live again.
The destination doesn't start with the show
Tick Start with show, or switch the destination on by hand. Either way, start the Upstream stream first.
For connection problems that aren't specific to mimoLive, such as Not connected, a poor connection or a leaked key, see the full RTMP troubleshooting list.
