Teradek VidiU RTMP setup for VidiU Go and VidiU X
A Teradek VidiU streams straight to an RTMP server, with no Teradek Core or Sharelink subscription. Point it at Upstream and Upstream copies the stream to up to 10 platforms.
The two current models are set up in different places: the VidiU Go in its web interface, the VidiU X in the VidiU app. Watch the quality presets too. "HD" means 720p on the Go but 1080p on the X.
- VidiU Go or VidiU X
- No Teradek subscription
Before you start
- An Upstream account (the free plan is enough to test)
- A Teradek VidiU Go or VidiU X
- The platforms you want to go live on
Step 1
Get your server URL and stream key from Upstream
In Upstream, press Create stream, choose Multistream from OBS (it works for any RTMP app or device) and add your platforms, up to 10. The stream opens in Live Studio with the RTMP input on. For a stream you already have, open Live Studio, Source and set Live Source to RTMP.
- RTMP Server URL
rtmp://ingest.upstream.so:1935/live- Stream Key
- Unique to each stream. Copy it from Upstream and keep it private.
Step 2
Paste the details into the VidiU
VidiU Go: type the IP address shown under Info on the front panel into a browser. On the Broadcast tab, choose RTMP/RTMPS (called Manual on older firmware). Paste the RTMP Server URL into RTMP/RTMPS Server URL and the Stream Key into Stream.
VidiU X: in the VidiU app, open the menu, then Streaming, Configure Destination and RTMP. Paste the RTMP Server URL into URL and the Stream Key into stream, then tap Apply.
Use H.264. If your VidiU Go was set to HEVC for Teradek Core, switch it back to H.264 for direct RTMP.
Step 3
Start the stream, then go live
Start the stream in Upstream first, then start streaming from the VidiU. Live Studio switches from Not connected to Excellent, Good or Poor connection when the feed arrives, and Upstream sends it to every platform on the stream.
"HD" means different things on the Go and the X
The VidiU Go's HD preset is 1280x720 at 5 Mbps. The VidiU X's HD preset is 1920x1080 at 5 Mbps. So on a Go, choose Custom under Settings, Broadcast, Quality to get 1080p, and set the frame rate to 30 separately.
On an X, set Resolution, Bitrate and Frame Rate (Custom, 30 fps) under Audio/Video. Either way, keep the bitrate below about 70% of your upload speed, as Teradek recommends.
Troubleshooting
My VidiU Go shows Manual, not RTMP/RTMPS
That is the same mode on older firmware. Choose Manual and enter the server URL and key in their fields.
The Go stopped streaming after I used Teradek Core
Core can switch the Go to HEVC. Set it back to H.264, then check that Broadcast is on RTMP/RTMPS with Upstream's details.
For connection problems that aren't specific to the VidiU, such as Not connected, a poor connection or a leaked key, see the full RTMP troubleshooting list.
FAQ
Do I need Teradek Core or Sharelink?
No. Streaming straight to an RTMP server like Upstream needs no Teradek subscription.
Can a VidiU X stream 60 fps through Upstream?
Yes, on a paid plan with the Upstream stream set to 60 fps. Otherwise Upstream converts 60 fps to 30, so set Frame Rate to Custom, 30 fps.
Checked against Teradek: VidiU Go RTMP, Teradek: VidiU X RTMP and the Upstream app, October 2026.
