Start a station for freeHow to make a music visualizer video
- 1
Add a song or a video
Choose audio files, or a video with sound. An empty track list lets the video supply both the picture and the audio.
- 2
Design the visualizer
In Design, choose a style and drag the animation into place. Add text or artwork, then resize it on the canvas.
- 3
Preview and download
Play a loud and a quiet passage, check the layout, then export your MP4. Visualizer videos can be up to 15 minutes.
Choose your visualizer style
Bars
A row of spectrum bars, with bass on the left and higher frequencies on the right. Try it along an edge to leave room for the artwork.
Mirror
Bass in the middle, with higher frequencies mirrored toward both sides. A good starting point for a layout built around a central image.
Wave
A moving line that follows the sound. Use it for a podcast excerpt or a music clip when you want a simpler shape.
Circle
A ring of spectrum bars. Move and resize it around your artwork, leaving enough room for the animation to grow during louder passages.
Set up the picture and sound
For a music video without the animation, use Add Audio to Video.
Use the sound from a video
Add the video while the track list is empty. If songs are already loaded, the video becomes their background instead. Start over to use the video's own sound.
Choose the video shape
Choose 16:9 for a landscape video, 9:16 for Shorts, Reels or TikTok, or 1:1 for square artwork. Check the crop and keep titles clear of the edges.
Leave room for the animation
Drag, resize or rotate the visualizer in Design. Use a color that stands out from the background and preview a loud passage before settling on its size.
Make a podcast audiogram
Add a short speech excerpt, show artwork and a title, then choose Wave. Prepare the excerpt first. The editor does not transcribe speech or add timed captions.
Fix common visualizer problems
The animation stays still
Wait for the track to finish loading. If it cannot be read, try an MP3 or WAV. Keep files within the 160 MB audio analysis limit.
The video has no readable sound
Check the original in a media player. If it plays there but fails here, try an MP4 with AAC audio or add a separate song.
Export stops before it finishes
Try a shorter excerpt or a smaller background file, close other heavy tabs and keep this page open. The export uses your device's memory.
Put the visualizer on a live station
For a channel that keeps playing, Upstream streams your music and an audio visualizer 24/7 from the cloud, with your computer off. Audio and video playlists loop separately, so you can add songs without rendering another MP4. Start with 24 free streaming hours a month.
