Other ways to change MP3 metadata

Your computer can edit a few tags without extra software. It gets slow with more than a handful of files.

On Windows

Right-click the MP3 in File Explorer, choose Properties and open the Details tab. You can change the title, artists, album, year, track number and genre one file at a time. Cover art and lyrics can't be edited there.

On a Mac

Add the song to the Music app, select it and choose Song, then Info. The Details, Artwork and Lyrics tabs edit the tags, and the changes are written back to the MP3 file.

Fix common MP3 tag problems

Windows still shows the old details

File Explorer caches tag details. Close the folder and open it again, or press F5. The new files use ID3v2.3, which Windows reads without trouble.

Apple Music or iTunes shows old tags

Music apps keep their own copy of the tags. Remove the song from the library, then add the edited file again.

Cover art doesn't show

Use a square JPEG or PNG. Some players only show art saved as the front cover, which is how this editor saves it.

Strange characters in names

Old files often store accents in a local code page. Retype the field here and it is saved as Unicode, so accents and non-Latin scripts show correctly.
