FAQ

Audio Converter FAQ

Files, privacy, formats and limits.

MP3 plays on almost everything and keeps files small. WAV and FLAC keep every detail: WAV for editors and DAWs, FLAC when you also want a smaller file. M4A works well on Apple devices, and OGG is common in games and on the web.

MP3, M4A and OGG are compressed formats, so a little detail is removed. By default MP3 uses a high quality setting of about 190 kbps, M4A 192 kbps and OGG about 160 kbps, and most people can't hear the difference. Converting to WAV or FLAC keeps the audio exactly as it is decoded.

Yes. Open Custom quality under the format and pick 96, 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps for MP3, M4A or OGG. 128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts, and 192 kbps or more suits music. WAV and FLAC are lossless, so they have no bitrate setting.

Yes. Custom quality also lets you mix the audio down to mono, which halves the size of a WAV file, and set the sample rate to 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. 48 kHz is the usual rate for video, and 44.1 kHz for music.

No. Converting an MP3 to WAV or FLAC makes the file bigger, but it can't bring back detail that was removed when the MP3 was made. Use them when a program needs that format.

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your audio never leaves your device.

Yes. Add the M4A file from your phone or computer, pick MP3 and download the result.

Yes. It is completely free, with no account and no limit on how many files you process. Downloads carry no watermark.

No. The tool runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file is read into memory on your device, processed there, and the result is saved straight to your downloads.

You can start with MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC, AIFF files. You can save the result as MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC.

There is no fixed limit, but the file has to fit in your browser's memory. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work well on most computers. For very large files, use a desktop browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

Yes, on modern iPhone and Android browsers. Processing is slower on a phone than on a computer, so shorter files work best there.
