What is MXF?
MXF is a container used for broadcast and editing. It can hold XDCAM MPEG-2, AVC-Intra or DNxHD video, as well as audio and production metadata.

Set up your streamCheck the first three seconds of an MXF clip before converting the full file to H.264 MP4. Your browser does the work on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and the output has no watermark.
Schedule this video in Upstream. Stream it to YouTube or Twitch at a set time, or keep a playlist running 24/7.

Check a three-second preview, then convert the full clip.
MXF is a container used for broadcast and editing. It can hold XDCAM MPEG-2, AVC-Intra or DNxHD video, as well as audio and production metadata.
Upstream does not accept MXF uploads. Convert a clip from your broadcast archive to H.264/AAC MP4 for Upstream or YouTube. The three-second preview lets you check the beginning before converting the whole file.
Choose an MXF file smaller than 1 GB. Short clips work best.
The preview covers the first three seconds. Use it to check the picture and the first audio track.
Set the quality and convert the full clip. Download the MP4 when it finishes.
This converts the video to H.264 and the audio to AAC. A remux only changes the container and would leave the video codec unchanged.
The quality settings use CRF 18 for High quality, 23 for Balanced and 28 for Small file. A lower number keeps more detail and usually makes a larger file. These settings have no effect when remuxing.
Audio is converted to 128 kbps AAC. The converter keeps the first audio track; it does not mix separate tracks. Files without audio stay silent.
The file must be under 1 GB. Your browser needs memory for the source, the output and decoding, so even a smaller file can fail, especially on a phone. Use a desktop converter for long recordings or archives.
Keep the original file. The MP4 has only the first video track; it drops subtitles, extra tracks, attachments, chapters and source metadata.
Re-encoded video is opaque and 8-bit. An odd width or height may be rounded down by one pixel. The converter does not tone-map HDR or preserve Dolby Vision.
The converter deinterlaces frames that the decoder marks as interlaced.
The preview is three seconds long, but the browser still loads the whole source file into memory.
Your browser downloads FFmpeg and runs it on your device through WebAssembly. The video stays on your device during conversion.
The converter is free. You can download the MP4 without an account or a watermark.
Keep files under 1 GB. Smaller files can still run out of browser memory, particularly on phones.
The converter makes a three-second preview so you can check the beginning of a clip.
Download the H.264 MP4 and add it to your Upstream library (see accepted formats and reencoding). Add it to a queue for a 24/7 live stream, or use pre-recorded live streaming for a scheduled broadcast.
FAQ
What the converter keeps and what it changes.
You can watch a three-second preview of the beginning. Your browser makes a temporary MP4 on your device for that preview. Convert the full file to watch the whole clip.
It includes decoders for XDCAM MPEG-2, AVC-Intra H.264 and DNxHD. Other codec variants or damaged files may not convert.
Use a desktop converter for a large archive. This tool rejects files of 1 GB or more, and smaller files can still run out of browser memory because the source, output and decoder buffers all need space.
The MP4 keeps the first video track and first audio track. It does not mix separate audio tracks. Extra tracks, timecode metadata, subtitles, attachments and chapters are dropped, so keep the original MXF as your archive.
