What is MOV?
MOV is the QuickTime container. Its video might be H.264, HEVC, ProRes or another codec. Changing MOV to MP4 alone does not change that codec, so some players may still be unable to open it.

The first video track and first audio track are kept.

Use this converter when a destination needs MP4 or your MOV needs H.264 video. Upstream already remuxes MOV to MP4 on upload. ProRes and HEVC still need re-encoding; select Convert to H.264 here to do that first.
Choose a MOV file from your camera, phone or editor.
Auto remuxes compatible tracks without changing them. Select Convert to H.264 for HEVC or playback on more devices.
Pick a quality setting if you are re-encoding. Run the conversion, then download the MP4.
Auto copies H.264 or H.265 video if the first audio track is AAC or MP3, or the file has no audio. It converts other combinations to H.264/AAC. Select Convert to H.264 to re-encode regardless of the source codec.
The quality settings use CRF 18 for High quality, 23 for Balanced and 28 for Small file. A lower number keeps more detail and usually makes a larger file. These settings have no effect when remuxing.
Audio is converted to 128 kbps AAC. The converter keeps the first audio track; it does not mix separate tracks. Files without audio stay silent.
The file must be under 1 GB. Your browser needs memory for the source, the output and decoding, so even a smaller file can fail, especially on a phone. Use a desktop converter for long recordings or archives.
Keep the original file. The MP4 has only the first video track; it drops subtitles, extra tracks, attachments, chapters and source metadata.
Re-encoded video is opaque and 8-bit. An odd width or height may be rounded down by one pixel. The converter does not tone-map HDR or preserve Dolby Vision.
Your browser downloads FFmpeg and runs it on your device through WebAssembly. The video stays on your device during conversion.
The converter is free. You can download the MP4 without an account or a watermark.
Keep files under 1 GB. Smaller files can still run out of browser memory, particularly on phones.
Copy compatible tracks without re-encoding, or choose H.264 for wider playback support.
Download the H.264 MP4 and add it to your Upstream library (see accepted formats and reencoding). Add it to a queue for a 24/7 live stream, or use pre-recorded live streaming for a scheduled broadcast.

Yes, if Auto can copy H.264 or H.265 video with AAC or MP3 audio, or no audio. It converts other codec combinations to H.264/AAC, which can lose detail.
Upstream remuxes MOV to MP4 automatically when you upload it. HEVC and ProRes files still get a Fix with reencode prompt. Convert them to H.264 here if you want to do that before uploading.
Yes. The converter decodes ProRes and re-encodes it as H.264. Keep the ProRes original for editing. The conversion loses editing detail and any transparency.
No. H.264 output is opaque; it does not preserve the alpha channel used for transparency. Upstream also flags ProRes and MOV files with alpha as unplayable.
