Set up your streamHow to remove a green screen
- 1
Choose your file
Open a video or image from your device. For video, use an MP4, WebM or MOV your browser can play. PNG, JPG and WebP images also work.
- 2
Adjust the key
Select green or blue, or pick a colour from the original frame. Raise similarity until the background disappears. Use Show before to check the edges.
- 3
Choose a background and export
Keep the background transparent or replace it with a colour or image. Images export as PNG. For video, use MP4 with a background, or transparent WebM if your browser supports it.
Tips and settings
Light the screen evenly
Keep the screen free of shadows and wrinkles. Leave some space behind your subject to reduce reflected green light, and avoid green clothing.
Pick a typical colour
Click a typical patch of the screen with the eyedropper. A very bright or dark patch may miss other shades. Play the clip to check hair and moving hands.
Set the similarity
Similarity controls how close a pixel must be to the key colour to become transparent. Increase it a little at a time so you do not remove part of your subject.
Soften the edges
Edge softness blends transparent and visible pixels along the edge. Start with a low value and raise it if the outline looks jagged.
Reduce colour spill
Spill suppression removes reflected green or blue from your subject. Watch the clothes and skin tones as you raise it; too much changes their colour.
Check the export
Both preview and export compare RGB colour distance to remove the background. Compression can still change fine edges in the exported video, so check the file.
