Q: Can I use animated lower thirds with alpha transparency?

No. Upstream flags ProRes and MOV files with alpha as unplayable. Build the lower third from designer elements instead, then add entrance, exit and loop animations.

Q: How many lower-third styles and templates are available?

The designer has 9 lower-third styles. Its 38 templates include 10 lower thirds, 15 widgets and 13 social templates.

Q: Can the news ticker read an RSS feed?

No. Enter the ticker text in the designer. It can scroll horizontally, vertically or in reverse, but it does not read RSS.

Q: Can I update graphics without stopping the channel?

Yes. Publish the changes while your channel is on air. In Live Studio, you can show or hide a graphic instantly.

Q: Do clocks adjust for daylight saving time?

No. Clocks use fixed UTC offsets. Update the offset when your local time changes.

Set when graphics appear

Leave your station logo on screen and time the other graphics around your programme.

Set the entrance and exit

Choose entrance, exit and loop animations for each layer. Available banners include Live, BRB, Starting soon, Ending soon, Subscribe and Donate.

Repeat a reminder

Set “show every N minutes” to repeat a promo during the programme. You can include a QR code, timer or progress bar.

Prepare your assets

Chroma key removes a colour you select from a layer. Make a title with the Lower Third Maker or prepare a clip with the Green Screen Remover.

Add your logo as an image layer. Use text layers for programme titles, with your own TTF or OTF fonts if needed.

Choose Live, BRB, Starting soon, Ending soon, Subscribe or Donate banners. Add clocks, countdowns, timers, progress bars, QR codes and now-playing information.

Text and image layers can animate on entrance, exit or a loop. Set “show every N minutes” to repeat a promo without attaching it to every clip.

Review accepted files and reencoding before adding video assets.

08 Can I remove a background colour from a layer?

Chroma key removes the colour you select from a layer. You can keep a clip's green background and key it in the designer. If you prepare it with the free Green Screen Remover, use an opaque background for upload. Upstream does not support alpha-channel video.
